Sound On Sound (SOS) Fest returns November 10-12 to the expansive 23-acre Sherwood Forest in McDade, Texas this year with some stellar, heavy-hitting artists. On Vinyl’s favorite production company, Margin Walker Presents, is bringing back the festival for an even bigger and better experience that starts with their power lineup and ends with their curation of vendors and sponsors.
SXSW is my favorite unofficial holiday every year. There’s nothing better than waiting for the SX schedule to drop like a child waiting for Santa to come down the chimney with mad gifts during Christmas. While there was talk of a SX scale-down, it was hard to notice when my calendar was blotched with calendar invites to official and unofficial shows and sessions for every half-hour block for ten days straight. Undoubtedly, Austin’s liberation has been challenged in recent weeks. Despite activist efforts, on going protests and a general outcry from the public, Donald Trump is the 2016 president-elect of the United States.
The summer of 2016 in Austin has yielded major successes in regards to local music and art. The rapid rise of the music-tech industry and city-wide support has cast a righteous spell on Austin based musicians. Daily showcases and concerts liberated the city and reminded the community of the excitement that accompanies “keeping Austin weird.” Amongst others, Empire Control Room, Swan Dive, The Mohawk, Barracuda and Scratchouse served as an oasis for discovery and enthrallment for music lovers and consumers. Hungry musicians who began the summer eager for exposure, are exiting the hot season with note-worthy revelation.
