The inaugural Sound on Sound Fest (SOS) just released their Globe Stage lineup, and excitement is ensuing. The Globe Stage is a beautiful ode to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. SOS’ Globe Stage will feature non-traditional festival events such as comedy acts, panel discussions, artist Q&As and an actual wedding. (Seriously, though).
Why is a Globe Stage such a big deal? Because not only are they far and few between at festivals, but when they do make an appearance it’s hard to find them done right. These stages are all about spoken word, new insights and the opportunity to share the guts, if you will, of art that makes controversy and beauty in the world. It looks like SOS understood that with this killer line up.
One of the most anticipated acts to grace the stage will be two members of Pussy Riot, Maria Alyokhina and Alexandra Lukyanova (a.k.a. Sasha Bogino), to debut a sneak preview of the documentary “Act and Punishment,” the story of Pussy Riot and their strong activism when it comes to female independence and liberties. Following the preview, time will be allotted to a Q&A session.
More spoken word to find at the Globe Stage is the live taping of the podcasts “Turned Out A Punk,” “The Needle Drop” and an original podcasts from the creators of the festival entitled “Sound on Sound Live.” These are fantastic opportunities to learn more about music and the culture that surrounds it in a perfect, art-infused atmosphere.
Other not-to-be-missed events include the Air Sex Championships, a wedding (mentioned earlier) where two festival fans will get married, multiple comedy acts by big names such as Joe Mande and Tim Heidecker, a performance of This Is Spinal Tap by the Midgetmen and the One Night Stand Comedy Dating Game that invites festival-goers to join in on the fun! Sound on Sound will also be debuting a variety show, “The Two Knight Show” that will feature surprise guests during the three-night event.
The festival takes place November 4-6 at Sherwood Forest Faire in Mcdade, Texas. The full schedule of the festival is here, and you are definitely going to want to see the rest. Single and full weekend passes are available, as well as camping spots.
