Weekly Staff Picks: To Summer’s End

Welcome to a playlist that is thriving and teeming with local Austin talent ranging from the unique, yet intricate aural soundscapes of SPEAK, to the reflective quintet that is Bee Caves.

These distinctive 10 tracks are just the beginning introductions for these homegrown artists. I began the playlist with Wild Child’s “Crazy Bird,” the five-year indie powerhouse, who started out writing songs in the back of a van, has already played stages on some of the most popular music festivals to date (Austin City Limits, Firefly Music Festival, and Bonnaroo, just to name a few). The rock vibes of “Kindness” by ATX veterans, Quiet Company, complement the midst of my musical selections. The five-man band has won many awards from the Austin Chronicle Annual Music Awards, and had been touring with iconic bands like Third Eye Blind. The last song on my playlist is my favorite of them all, “Time Away From Home” by Summer Salt. The best friend trio caught my attention with their unique and organic sound. Summer Salt identifies their genre to be “coral reef rock, tropical, and neb-oldies,” but it is nothing short of cathartic, soul soothing music to get you through a rough week.
