Just a block short from the packed bars and long lines of dirty Sixth Street, lies a cozy, ambient venue: Swan Dive. On Sept. 10, 2015, local Austin artist management and event promotion company, Glitter Tribe, hosted a fantastic show stacked with local artists. The night opened with Waking Fable, a group effortlessly delivering sultry and soulfully rich sounds with an acoustic and subtle pop vibe.
As more people trickled into the bar, hometown heroes, Sons of Santos took the stage bringing everyone in the place up on their feet and groovin’ to their unique upbeat folky-blues tunes. Fresh from Utopiafest, Shane Cooley graced the room, performing alongside The Lucky Kings. The singer/songwriter captured the room and made those in conversations stop to listen closely to his eclectic sound–a mixture of rock with notable folk roots. To close the night, Born Again Virgins echoed through Swan Dive with lead vocalist Anna’s crooning vocals, ones that reminded me of Elena Tonra of the band Daughter. Born Again Virgins’ garage rock songs, teeming with grunge undertones, made the show’s finale come to a surprisingly humbling end.
